Welcome to Hedgehog Class
Term 2 - Autumn Term
Hello Hedgehogs!
Welcome to our class page, where you can find information about PE days, homework and the learning we will be doing over the term.
Our learning question this half term is linked to our History Topic.
What did the Representation of the People Act 1918 do?
Can you guess what we will be learning about here and what our second History topic will be based on?
Within Maths this term, we will be continuing to focus on the four operations, as well as beginning to look at calculations involving fractions. We will continue to practise all four mathematical calculations practised in previous year groups.
In English this term, our writing will be focused around non-fiction reports based on World War One (last terms History topic) and looking at adapting a traditional fairy tale. We will also be looking at writing poetry towards the end of the term. We will be practising grammar, punctuation and spelling learnt in previous year groups and will learn to use those expected at Year 6 level.
In Reading, our Narrative texts will be mainly linked to ideas from our History topic, with Non-Fiction texts linked to the Suffragettes and poetry by Roger McGough. We will continue to use reading strategies the children already understand and will challenge the children to answers questions in a detailed way.
In History, we will be looking at the Suffragettes and how they differed to the Suffragists in the fight for Women’s Rights. In Geography, we will be looking closely at different British Geographical issues such as pollution and flooding and we will be looking at Financial Capabilities in PSHE. Art this term continues our journey with the Italian Renaissance and branches out into architecture and sculpture from this time period. We are also extremely excited to have Mrs Jessup visiting us this term to bring the New Testament to life through storytelling and drama in our RE lessons.
Key information:
PE Days: Monday and Tuesday
Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days. Make sure they have warm clothes and suitable shoes in case their lesson is outside.
Homework: To continue to support the children’s learning in school, we encourage them all to complete homework, so that they can practise their ongoing knowledge and skills learnt. The children will be asked to complete these tasks:
-Reading
-Times table practice - TT Rock Stars
-SPAG.com tasks set by teacher
-Complete Maths set by teacher
Reading: Please continue to read 4 times a week. Children should continue to log this in their reading logs or on a piece of paper and then hand into the teacher weekly.
Maths: Please continue to practice times tables with your child – this can be done in a variety of ways. We are very excited to be using 'TT Rockstars' this year and I believe the class already have log-ins for this from their previous teacher.
(Please do contact us if you have any queries or questions about the homework).
Over the year, children may be asked to complete additional homework, which will be communicated with the children and via Class Dojo at that time.
If home learning needs to take place at any point throughout the year again, we will update this page accordingly with further information.
As always, if you have any questions then please get in touch via Class Dojo. Please ensure any urgent messages or absences are still sent to the office in the case the teacher cannot view Class Dojo right away.
See you all soon.
Mrs Brumby
Autumn Term
P.E.
Due to the change in how we are doing things at school, could we ask that on P.E. days children come into school wearing their full P.E. kit please, which they will then wear all day.
We will have P.E. on a Monday (outside) and on a Tuesday (inside).
Children are not allowed to wear earrings for P.E. - please continue to ensure these are removed on the above days.
Can we also ask that long hair be tied back please for PE, as well as during the school day.
