Year 4

Teacher:  Miss Lander

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Kirkman, Mrs Paice, Mrs Hawton and Miss Colbert.

Welcome Badgers!

Our class page is where you can find information about PE days, homework and the learning we will be doing over the term.

Our learning question this term is linked to our Religious Education Topic.

What is it like for Christians to follow God?

Within Maths this half term, we will be focusing on Place Value and Addition and Subtraction.

In English this term, our writing will be focused around the text ‘The BFG' by Roald Dahl. We will be practising grammar, punctuation and spelling learnt in previous year groups.

In Reading, our texts will be mainly centred around ideas and stories about Anglo Saxons and Vikings, starting with ‘How to be a Viking’ by Cressida Cowell and Non-Fiction texts around the time period itself. We will continue to use the VIPER strategies the children already understand and will challenge the children to answers questions in a detailed way.

In History, we will be looking at The Anglo Saxons, Scots and Vikings. In Geography, we will be focusing on Spatial Sense and looking at maps of our local area. Our RE focus is People of God and in PSHE we will be focused on relationships and healthy lifestyles. In Music, we will be learning to play the recorder and in Science we will be diving deep into the digestive system.

KEY INFORMATION

PE

Year four have PE on a Wednesday and a Thursday. Please can you send your child into school wearing their PE kits on these days. Can you also ensure hair is tied back and earrings are removed, if your child is unable to do this themselves.

Reading

Each week on a Friday, we collect in your child's reading diary. We would expect your child to have read four times each week. They are then able to move across the planets to become a Rocket Reader!

Your child can record in the diary what they are reading, but can you please sign to acknowledge this.

We look forward to seeing how many Rocket Readers we have by October half term!!

Spellings

Your child will receive spellings every two weeks. Please encourage and support your child to learn these.

Times tables

By the end of year 4, your children will need to be able to recall multiplication facts for all tables up to 12 x 12. They will have weekly times tables to learn and our speed tests will take place on a Wednesday and a Friday.

Please visit the Mathsframe website to practice your tables. Please ensure you are also signing in to Tackling Tables weekly, to help improve your speed.
