How to help at home

Support your child with their reading by spending 10 minutes every day reading with them. Use the questions in the reading diary and encourage your child to keep a reading log. It is very helpful if you can sign their reading diary when you hear your child read.

Make sure your child has a quiet place to work.

Some key skills to work on at home include:

  • number bonds to 10 and then 20
  • number and letter formation
  • counting in 2s, 5s and 10s

Useful educational websites include:

Please see the school website for information and resources to help with your child’s letters and sounds.

Don’t forget, if you are signed up to record as many learning experiences as you can using your Children’s University passport.

In line with DfES guidance your child can expect one piece of written topic based homework each week. This will be sent home on Wednesday, to be returned the following Monday.

Although we aim to follow the timetable below, it may alter from time to time.

  • Monday: Reading
  • Tuesday: Reading
  • Wednesday: Reading / Written Homework / Spellings
  • Thursday: Reading
  • Friday: Reading

Written homework and spelling practice should be completed with a writing pencil.

Reading books will be changed on Mondays and Fridays.

PE will be on Wednesdays and Fridays this term.

Children need to bring their PE kit to school on Mondays and it needs to be taken home on Friday to be washed. Your child will need a pair of outdoor P.E. shoes.

Long hair is to be tied back and earrings removed.

Please make sure your child has a labeled water bottle in school.
