Welcome to Year 6's class page!
It has been a fantastic start to this term already. As our topic is Victorians, for the first 2 days back we immersed ourselves in the Victorian era. We learnt all about life at Victorian schools and our teacher taught a Victorian style lesson. We learnt that children were made to write right handed even if they were left handed, we learnt that Victorian PE lessons were very short sessions which involved simple movements (nothing that made your heart beat faster) and we learnt that the boys would have learnt woodwork whilst the girls would have learnt to sew!
Also this term already we have had a 'Dare to Dream Day' where lots of people from different jobs came in to talk to us about what we could aspire to be when we're older. There was a climbing wall, a climber who has climbed Victoria Falls, a structural engineer who helped us to make our own bridges, an author and an architect. It was a busy day but we loved it!
We've had another busy week in Year 6 this week. We have been learning about narrative poetry and using The Highwayman and The Lady of Shalott for inspiration for our own poetry. The work that the children have been creating is fantastic, I'm very proud of how focused they are on the tasks I've set them and how engaged they have been with it all.
During parent's evening this week, some parents asked me to share the maths revision timetable, which we will be following in class, with them so I have attached it below so you can see what we will be focusing on each week.
PE: Year 6 have PE on a Friday afternoon.
