Our Theme for this term is:
Roman Britain
During the term your child will be studying:
Literacy: We will be looking at shape poetry, report writing linked to topic work, instruction writing and focusing on specific fiction authors. We will work on sentence structure and choosing appropriate words for each style of writing.
Numeracy: Number sequences and patterns, place value, times tables, factors, written methods for addition and subtraction, time and measure.
Science: Bio-diversity – Living things in the environment. The children will be using progressive investigation skills to find out more about their natural environment, by surveying plants and animals found around our school and actively working to improve the bio-diversity of our outside space.
ICT: The children will be continuing to improve their research skills through our history and science topics.
Yr 2 and 3 will be learning to use Publisher to create posters and present their work. E-safety will continue to be a major part of our learning and all year groups will review and revisit the rules safety previously taught, to ensure that these aspects of working with ICT become second nature.
RE: We are looking at the topic “Commitment and Belonging.” Within this we will be learning about the world faiths; Christianity, Judaism and Sikhism and how members of these faiths show that they belong and they are committed. Year 2 will be thinking about the stories that Jesus told and how the first Christians showed their commitment to Jesus and will be focusing on what it means to belong to a ‘family’, organization, religion etc Year 3 will be learning to appreciate that committing oneself to something means taking responsibility for themselves and others. The children will be able to suggest ways in which we show they belong to a family group or school or organization.
History: The Romans In Britain. The children will be learning about the Roman invasion, Queen Boudicca’s Revolt and different aspects of Roman life in Britain. Yr 2 will be learning about time lines and using different ways to find out about history. Yr 3 will be using historical sources to find out about the main events which took place and to answer their own questions. We will be visiting Peterborough Museum for a hands-on experience of Roman life through primary and secondary sources – even meeting a Roman soldier!
Art: Roman Art. Linking to our history topic on the Romans, the children will look and make their own mosaics through drawings, collage and clay work. They will also make Roman style pots.
In year 2 the children will make pinch pots. In year 3 they will make coil pots.
DT: Food technology is the theme for the children this term. Years 2 and 3 will be sampling, designing making and evaluating biscuits. They will learn basic rules for food hygiene, how to prepare food and then go on to design their own products.
French: Year 3 – The children will be learning classroom instructions, to ask and answer simple questions and the months of the year.
Music: Performing together – We will be singing songs which have a historical theme including “The Bebop Ballad of Boudicca”, working together to produce a polished performance.
Yr2 - The children will be focusing on their breathing while singing tunefully. Yr3 – will be focusing on their breathing and singing with some expression.
PE:During this term the children will spend one PE session swimming. This will involve developing progressive water safety skills and also focus on stroke practice and improvement. The other PE session will be athletics. The children will be taught a range of athletic skills such as running, jumping and throwing. The older children will be running longer distances, be learning to throw a wider range of equipment and make more complex jumps.
PSCHE: Children will continue to develop their e-safety capabilities this term.
